Well, for tonight, we shall together be looking at the topic;
Courier Delivery Business In Nigeria. and How To Start A Successful one.…
A wise man once said, if the purpose of a thing isn’t known, then its abuse is inevitable.
I totally agree with this saying if I’m to judge from the context of our today’s topic.
So, on this premise, I’ll like to let us understand some facts about the business and after that, we’ll all then decide whether or not this is worth giving a shot….
FACT ONE:
Going into business means that you’ll be providing a service;
1. parallel to NIPOST.
and
2. to compete with the likes of UPS, EMS, DHL, etc.…
Yes, many businesses today knows that to move goods and all sizes of consignments, deploying the government-run-NIPOST is a complete waste of productive time.
I personally deal in online purchases a lot. And each time I had no choice than to pick the service of NIPOST, I know I’m in for delays and possible missing of my goods in space.
The other alternative run by private couriers are just damn expensive….
A Courier company is one which delivers messages, packages and mail and is known for speed, security, tracking service and specialisation.
Courier services come into play when speed and adequate security of your goods comes into play.
They are alternative to the usual mail service that had been the only delivery service for so long. Traditional mail services are known for having slow delivery times and can incur expenses if items are large or heavy; couriers seemed to be the perfect alternative and despite it being slightly more expensive than normal postage it is beneficial for certain deliveries….
Courier services became increasingly popular with the arrival of Internet shopping.
Being able to order large and multiple items from online sellers required specialist delivery services that would enable customers to not only receive….
I know many of us were scared when I mentioned that you would be competing with the likes of DHL, EMS etc.
Well, you don’t have to.
Ours can be initiated on a small scale.
We can begin very small with intrastate…

We want to look at my own personal strategy.
Now, to begin your own small scale Courier service, we’ll deploy the strength of the Internet.
This is the strategy.
One:
You are to create business pages on all social media sites.
Two:
Create several e-flyers (using a suitable android app) and upload on your pages.
Three:
Run a cheap advert and target the right demographics.
Four:
Though finding clients isn’t that easy but it will be strategic to join various business groups online eg. Mini importers etc.
Five:
Use a waybill business model to ship your orders to your clients preferred destination.
Now, this may not sound big BUT by the time you are able to serve a few people, you will know yourself when to scale up…
I’ll try to explain each steps but I’ll focus more on the delivery aspect
Now, before I shed little more light on those 5 aspects, I’ll like to mention that I won’t be focusing on you running the business on the road yourself.
Because some others does this business by buying either a car or bus or even bicycle…

Although, I’m not seeing creation of pages on prominent social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram as a rocket science.
I know many of us may have in time past owned a page before.
All that is needed hence will just to create catchy sales flyers…
Also, Boosting, your page so that your target audience over the Internet could find you isn’t anything difficult.

On finding clients for your courier service, I’d told us that getting organic customers will be to join groups (either business or otherwise).
This will be an alternative to advertising or sending proposals to businesses and firms.
As long as people eat, buy clothes, jewelries, gadgets, books and even cosmetics, you’d be in business.
Nigeria is still going tech and many people are grabbing the trends of shopping online…
Now lastly, the waybill system of shopping…
This system saves you from investing huge capital in your courier service offering.
It simply means that while you struggle to get clients and orders, you’ll be outsourcing the movement of these orders instead of jumping on the road to make deliveries….
How this is done is that while taking orders, you request the client to mention which transport company has a station around the reception area.
Transport firms like ABC, IFESINACHI, etc have wide coverage BUT this does not mean they have stations across the federation…
So the important question to ask is which transport company has station close to your home or office or place of who or to this address you have supplied?..
