Eleven reasons why people become poor and how you can overcome poverty

POVERTY is like a punishment for a crime you didn’t commit

Extreme POVERTY anywhere is a threat to human security everywhere

POVERTY is a pandemic that is worst than CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 that we have on our hands

POVERTY has ravaged this country of ours

The population of NIGERIA according to the last CENSUS or head count is over 200 million

But as it is today from statistics over 94 million Nigerians are living below the POVERTY level

This is a statistics PRE COVID-19…..

According to a recent STATISTICS too by the NIGERIA BUREAU OF STATISTICS POST COVID-19 about 39 million Nigerians will lost their JOBS and may also slip into the POVERTY level

Which makes it 94 + 39 = 133

Which is by POST COVID-19 we might have 133 million NIGERIANS being extremely POOR…..

So this is a time BOMB waiting to EXPLODE..

If a serious an a very urgent as well as a pragmatic steps are not taken to address this issue of POVERTY….

NIGERIANS are in for a terrible and a very bad situation and times

Which may worsened the already bad situation we have at hand…..

So being born poor isn’t your fault but staying poor is. There are many reasons why people are poor and remain poor.

As we all know poverty is a state of lack and penury. It is the inability to provide for yourself and others around you.To be poor is not having enough money and other things that can make you happy and comfortable.

There are reasons why people are poor. Some of the reasons are highlighted below.

1. Some people are born into poor family with so many children.

This one isn’t your fault. You experience this in some African homes where people give birth to many children they can’t take care of. Such children may not be enrolled in school and that may affect their future.

Consider the case of the “almajiris” in the northern part of Nigeria for instance and in some other parts of the country as well. Learn from the failure of your parents ; find out about family planning when you’re married.

2. Inability to get basic education.

Some people don’t value education. Education is one such way you can fight poverty.

Even though we hear these days that many graduates don’t have a job but I slightly disagree. If you’re a graduate, no matter how bad the economy is, you can always find a way to survive and avoid poverty.

3. Inability to learn a skill .

Skill acquisition is another way to beat poverty. If you learn a skill, you can survive with that. There are many skills you can learn such as tailoring, painting, desktop publishing, computer programming, software development, catering services, barbing, liquid soap production, poultry farming, goat rearing, fish farming, etc.

4. Laziness.

This is one of the commonest reasons why people are poor and remain poor. There are people who wake up so late in the morning and who don’t intend to work at all. They can eat but find it hard to go out and look for means to survive.

But if you decide to make your life worthwhile by jettisoning laziness, you’ll come out of lack.

5. Idleness.

If you don’t get some education or skill now, you’ll become poor.

6. Depending on relatives and friends for help .
While it is not wrong to ask for help from people, perpetually relying on them for your daily bread is wrong. That man or woman you ever depend on may fail you one day. They may have their own challenges too so avoid totally depending on a human being like you for your survival.

Some rich people would prefer they train you on a skill so you don’t keep coming to them for ever.

7. Having an “entitlement” mentality .

This is when people feel others “owe” them but the fact is that once you get to a certain age, you shouldn’t blame your parents anymore for your woes and failures.

At 18 in Nigeria, you’re considered an adult so stop the blame game and take your own destiny in your hands. No one owes you anything. Go get a job!

8. Inability to leverage on other people’s success.

The best way to become successful is to learn from successful men and women. Get to read books on people who have made it. Listen to their story and learn from them.

9. Inability to build on multiple streams of income.

These days in Nigeria, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to depend on only one source of income. Find out other things you can be doing to make more money so that if you don’t get money from one source, you can get from other sources.

For instance, there are many young men and women who make a living writing good business plan.

10. Negative mind set.

Some people don’t believe they can be rich and successful. This is your enemy number one. Even if others don’t believe in you, don’t become your own enemy by doubting yourself.

If you believe you can succeed; work and pray, you will. Remember the aphorism, ”as a man thinks in his heart, so is he”. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

11.Lack of savings culture .

Some people don’t save for the rainy day. Some have told us that no matter how small our income is, to save a part of it. While it may be difficult to save on certain income, try to imbibe the savings culture when you have enough.

Make up your mind to become successful today. Poverty shouldn’t be your birthright.

This is where I will drop the anchor for tonight seminar

Thank you and God bless you all….

I hope I have impacted you all tonight????
