So tonight our focus is going to be GRASSCUTTER….
Grasscutter farming is like untapped crude in Nigeria…

One of the solutions to the problem of unemployment in Nigeria is that government should create the enabling environment for jobless youths and students to set up grasscutter business with very little capital.
Grasscutter farming is cheap. It is a business that does not require millions of naira. With N75,000, anyone can start it. They are reared in cages, and a roadside carpenter can help to construct the cages. So, with N70,000 to N75, 000, you can start breeding grasscutter…..
It is advisable to buy them when they are four months old, which is the breeding stock stage. The cages can occupy any available space in your house, compound, or store or even the kitchen. Their excreta is odourless. You do not necessary need to buy a land for the business.
In addition, you do not need to buy food for grasscutters like you do in fish poultry and pig farming. Grasscutters feed mainly on grass.
One female grasscutter can give you six to nine babies at a go. Grasscutters are easy and very cheap to rear.
They can easily be reared at home, and it is a business venture that can be started on a small scale with a space less than one room.
An undergraduate or the unemployed can start with this amount and make profits.
If you buy them and rear for four months, they will start having babies at eight months. If you do not have space to expand, you can start selling their babies to farmers.
If the four females give you seven babies each, you have 28 more grasscutters.
Now we can see how Profitable it can be.
After eight months, you can start to make profit. You get the animals fromTEA FARMS AND FOODS SERVICES at four months and they start making babies when they grow to eight months. They carry their babies up to five months. Female grasscutter reproduces twice a year for five years.
What are Potentials in grasscutter farming
Currently, in Nigeria, ‘’bush meat’’ is not taken for granted. It is not even for the poor but for the middle class.
It is a special white and healthy meat, unlike beef that is red. It does not have high cholesterol; in most cases, doctors recommend it to people who have heart conditions, and the demand is high.
What are the challenges?
People find it difficult to get the right breeding stock for commercial operation, but I’m happy to inform the world that in TEA FARMS AND FOODS SERVICES, we have quality breeding animals you can start your grasscutter business with.
The first challenge we encountered had to do with technicalities. What this means is that people need to go for proper training before venturing into grasscutter business.
Some people who started the business without training have already shut down for lack of appropriate knowledge. They did it as a hobby, and later abandoned the business because of one mistake or the other.
We observed that most potential farmers who have interest in grasscutter farming are usually inhibited by distance from attending our seminars in our Lagos farms; very soon we will spread our practical workshops across major cities in Nigeria.
