Good evening ladies and gentlemen
How has your day been sir/ma???
Great I guess????
If so!! Glory be to God Almightyā¦
You are all welcome to our seminar for tonight
Now!! Let’s set the ball rollingā½ā½ā½ā½
You are an employee working with an organizationā¦
How long have you been working with your present employers????
How long do you intend to work with them???
What plans and steps are you taking to liberate yourself and become your own BOSS???
Obviously you are working in your present establishment to become successful???
You are working in your present establishment to survive and to be at least comfortable as an individual
But certainly not to become RICH & WEALTHY???š¤·š¼āāš¤·š¼āāš¤·š¼āā
let me make it clear to you my people that no MILLIONAIRE or BILLIONAIRE become RICH & WEALTHY from the money they earn as WAGES & SALARYā¦.
In the year 2007, my attention was drawn to the security guard at the gate of the school where I was working.
He was over 70 years of age, he spoke flawless British English.
I took a bold step to engage him in conversation.
I was shocked when he told me of places where he had worked and posts he had once held.
What then happened?
He was retired about 5 years ago and after spending his severance pay he had nothing to do than to seek employment.
No company was willing to employ him because of the age bias. That was why he resorted to getting a security jobš
Then I subtracted my age from his and realised the difference was not very significant. ..in a matter of years, I will soon be his ageā¦
Then I checked my bank account, no dime..
He even had a severance package, there was nothing like that where I was working and perhaps in very many schoolsā¦
A great burden of fear fell on my heartā¦
I was very scared of what becomes of mešš
I make bold to task you today: Subtract your age from 70, what did you get?
Are you prepared for that time?
Age indeed catches up with one in a speed of lightning
That very day, I realised that I was not prepared for life after I get out of working as an employee for years!
I looked around the staff room and there was no single teacher I could spot having any plan for life after school. ..so I raised the issue and from that day a new generation of teachers became my friends.
Today, the Maths teacher is no longer teaching, together we started scrap collection business then but today he has moved on to cleaning of warehouses. He has a registered business that gets warehouse cleaning contracts from companies like PZ, Bollore, Guiness Nig PLC, to mention a fewā¦
The Agric teacher and the ICT teacher still teach together in the same school but have a registered partnership firm that produces pesticides and their wives have become distributors while the husbands produceā¦
Hope you know that the school called HOME SCIENCE?
Home science association is a group of professional Home Economists (women) with passion and commitment to good basic family living and quality education for children.
So the challenge before you today is: how prepared are you for life after you are retired from active service?
If there is a set of educators that need to pay more attention to this discussion, it must be educators working in public schools.
Public schools are not for profit making and somehow this inflicts a lacklustre mindset on a large fraction of educators working in them. They hardly find it easy to successfully run businesses of their own after retirement.
I know several retired principals of schools that could not run their own established schools. ..
Don’t take it for grantedā¦to be successful at business, you must be schooledā¦.
That you are a great doctor does not mean you can run a hospital and be successful at it!
Being the best maths teacher in the world is not a guarantee that you can produce and market a single maths textbook. ..
Being certified and having worked in other people’s establishments can be very different from running your own establishment. .. The scenario can be very different when you have to be the one to source staff salaries, to seek profitable ventures, to receive the entire consequence of every decision You take or actions taken by others in your own establishment. ..
Whethe you like it or not, a day is coming when you will leave the establishment where you are working now or you will be asked to leave
Do not be deceived by how very close you are to the management, age will catch with you so suddenly. ..
What must you do now while you can?
- Begin to go to work henceforth with the mindset of an ownerā¦.don’t join the others daily lamenting about the meagre salary being paidā¦begin to think like the ownerā¦think of the strategies that can boost patronage, think of alternatives to bring in additional incomes to the organizations, make bold steps to suggest these ideasā¦
In a way you are helping the organization, but of a greater benefit is the opportunity to experiment some of these ideasā¦this will begin to shape what you can venture into personally. ..
- Get involved in a venture that requires you committing your money, time and skills. Don’t wait till you retire before you try out ideas..Now that you have a secured earning with an organisation is the best time to risk ā¦at the worst, you still have your monthly alertā¦and you will stop being a gossip around the organization. .
Finallyā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦
- Become a very passionate student of business. Join business platforms, discussions and experiment.
Now that age is in your side, you will not be risking your health so much if a venture does not yield as expected, but when it becomes the only source you and your family would have to depend upon in your old age,ā¦.
This is where I draw the curtain for tonight seminar
Thank you all and God bless you allā¦..
