In Nigeria today, there are lots of complains as to how hard time has become. Recent statistics that tend to measure poverty and unemployment rate showing Nigeria to be among the top countries in the world. A lot if young men and women now scavenge for any job opportunity….
But unfortunately, lots of people tend to look the wrong direction while searching for opportunities, some others have been so myopic in their search. Regardless of the situation, there are still a lot of things that you can do and get good money with minimal stress….

Just as you know that there is standard for everything, there’s also a standard for roasting catfish which will make it acceptable for exports and local super markets and major stores. The Profit Potentials In Smoked/processed Catfish Business
A kilogram of catfish goes between N400 to N600. Each of these costs about N100 to have it processed and packaged.
You can retail to your customers at the rate of N1,500 or more. You can as well take your goods to some supermarkets at the rate of N800 or N1,000 while they sell at any price of their choice.
Assuming that in a whole month, all you were able to dry and sell to your customers are just 1,500 packs and each sold at a moderate price of N1,000, now multiply that by 1,500 while you remove your cost prize per one which may be not up to N600, add up what you get and then compare it with what top average office workers are earning per month….

Availability of fund : I have heard people say that the first thing you need before starting any business is the idea and not the fund. That’s relatively true.
Now that the idea is on ground the next thing that should be on your mind should be the money to run the business. Catfish processing business needs a starting fund but not as expensive as what many people has been proposing….
Many people feels you need millions to kick start the business but I am here to proof you wrong on that. With less than hundred thousand you can start catfish smoking or dried catfish business.
To be precise you can start this business with N10,000 only if you really want to get started at a small scale. Ok, I am sure you are thinking like what’s this dude saying. Chill, I will give you some little analysis soon.

As a new fish processor who lacks the financial capacity to acquire this equipment you can start with the local method of processing fish. All you need to get you started is a stand with wire mesh over it and a fire place beneath. In this case the major power sources are coal and fire wood.
Also to make your fire stand all you need do is to get a drum, open up the top and replace with wire mesh while you create an opening below it where coal and fire wood can pass into the drum.
Remember that you are into the business for two purposes which are: To meet needs and lastly to make end meets.
Accessibility to market: The market is really not the challenge; the major problem you might face is your inability to market your produce. Marketing is the soul of any business. Poor marketing will result into poor sales.

When you have all this done, be rest assured that your products would be accepted anywhere in the world!.
N/B, Do not. take your fish to the supermarkets with hopes of receiving your cash immediately, no they will not pay you unless your goods are sold but if you are able to meet up with the required standards and have your fish properly garnished, hygienically packed, appetizing to the eyes, that on it’s own would turn your products to hotcake in the markets making even the supermarkets to be paying you in advance.
